Lauren has particular experience in health and safety, transport and serious driving offences. She has represented individuals, partnerships, sole traders, companies and charities in relation to investigations and prosecutions by CPS, Health and Safety Executive, Local Authorities and other regulatory bodies including the ORR, Trading Standards and MAIB. She specialises in corporate criminal defence work, offering crisis management support to individuals and organisations investigated and often prosecuted by a variety of regulators She is also regularly instructed to assist clients with inquests following workplace, and other, incidents and to advise on non-contentious regulatory compliance issues.
She advises across a range of sectors.
Lauren is regarded by Legal 500 as a key health and safety lawyer and has been nominated in the Northern Powerhouse Awards as Rising Star of the Year for Transport.
Lauren’s recent experience in contentious matters includes:
- acting for a transport company accused of health and safety breaches with the potential to have wide ranging consequences for the logistics and transport sector if guilty, the prosecution were unsuccessful at trial
- acting for a national gas company accused of health and safety breaches following a serious incident at one of its logistics depot. The matter is listed for trial in February 2027
- representing a charity following the death of a volunteer during a construction project through the Police, Coronial and HSE investigations
- acting for a corporate client from the outset of an incident through the Police/HSE investigation and subsequent prosecution for corporate manslaughter
- acting for a national gas company in inquest proceedings following a fire including advocacy at the inquest. Advice prior to the inquest meant the client avoided a prevention of future deaths report and was commended by the Coroner for actions taken to improve processes
- acting for a manufacturer following a fatal incident involving one of is machines through the Police/HSE and Coronial investigations and supporting the implementation of a global recall programme
Lauren also has non-contentious experience including: advising an industry association on a national safety campaign resulting in updated guidance and signage in the agricultural sector; advising clients on their health and safety documentation and carrying out compliance reviews; assisting a client to investigate potentially dangerous defects following the fit out of a warehouse by contractors and advising on transport related matters including fatigue, drivers’ hours and CPS training requirements.
