Eversheds Sutherland assisted ITA Airways, the Italian state-owned airline, in negotiating and finalising the leasing arrangements for four Airbus A350-900s worth $1.27bn.
The arrangement between ITA Airways and ALAFCO DAC, the Irish subsidiary of the Aviation Lease and Finance Company (ALAFCO), an aircraft rental company based in Kuwait, also represents a significant development in ITA Airways’ strategy, which focuses on building a new environmentally-friendly fleet.
The Eversheds Sutherland team was led by Partner Umberto Mauro, Head of the Banking & Finance department in Italy, and Sindhura Swaminathan, Head of the Banking & Finance department in Paris.
Sindhura Swaminathan commented:
“It was a wonderful experience to help support ITA Airways during the complex and extremely interesting negotiations. Thank you ITA Airways for allowing us to be a part of this.”
Umberto Mauro commented:
“I trust that this transaction will be the first of a long series of aviation finance deals aimed at helping ITA Airways to create a renewed and sustainable fleet.”
