Hurricanes Stir Questions On 'Acts Of God' In Contracts

Real Estate attorney George Bernhardt is quoted in Law360’s article about how the predictability of extreme weather events is bringing renewed attention to force majeure clauses in real estate contracts and whether such incidents can continue to be classified as unforeseeable "act of God" events.

"Thirty years ago, it was just another piece of boilerplate language nobody really cared about, and the force majeure clause sat there with... a dozen other clauses at the end of the contract you just skimmed really quickly — but you just can't do that anymore," George said.
