Deepa Menon counsels businesses in the complex areas of employment, worker privacy, privacy and data protection and technology product issues.
With a practice that spans employment, data protection, artificial intelligence, and technology product counseling, Deepa helps clients build compliant, forward-thinking programs — whether they are managing a workforce, launching or adopting a new technology product, or expanding their U.S. footprint. Deepa advises a diverse range of clients — from emerging companies to established enterprises. She works with both domestic and international clients across all fifty states, providing both advice/counsel and M&A support.
Employment
Deepa counsels clients on the full spectrum of workplace matters, including hiring and onboarding practices, employee classification, wage and hour compliance, workplace investigations, performance management, reductions in force, restrictive covenants, executive compensation, benefits, and employment agreements and separation agreements. She also advises on the development and implementation of employment policies and handbooks, and helps clients manage risk at every stage of the employment relationship. When disputes arise, Deepa works closely with clients to resolve matters efficiently and with their broader business objectives in mind.
Data Protection
Deepa guides clients through the increasingly complex web of U.S. privacy laws and regulations. Her work includes advising on data collection and processing practices, drafting and negotiating data processing agreements, building and refining internal privacy programs, responding to data subject requests, managing data retention procedures, and managing data incidents and breach notification obligations. She helps clients translate regulatory requirements into workable compliance frameworks that align with how their businesses actually operate.
Artificial Intelligence and Technology Counseling
Deepa advises clients on the legal, regulatory, and governance dimensions of artificial intelligence. As AI tools become embedded in business operations, she helps clients understand the legal risks and obligations that arise at every stage of the AI lifecycle — from procurement and deployment to ongoing monitoring and governance. She advises companies on the use of AI in high-stakes contexts such as hiring, performance evaluation, and workforce management, where federal and state laws increasingly impose transparency, fairness, and accountability requirements. Deepa also counsels clients on emerging AI-specific regulations at the federal and state levels, and helps them build internal AI governance frameworks that address risk management, human oversight, and responsible use policies. For clients developing or commercializing AI-powered products, she provides guidance on product design considerations, terms of use, and the intersection of AI with data protection.
