Blake Roberts leads the firm’s Congressional Investigations practice and represents clients in congressional inquiries, government investigations, and other matters that blend law, policy, and reputational risk. He also advises clients on investigations and regulatory matters involving commerce and national security, such as export controls, trade, and industrial policy.
Blake recently served as Deputy General Counsel of the U.S. Commerce Department and previously served as an Associate Counsel in the White House.
Blake has guided clients through well over 100 congressional inquiries and hearings. He has prepared CEOs, executives, and senior government officials to testify before Congress.
Blake also conducts internal reviews and represents clients facing government investigations, including by state attorneys general. He has represented leading technology companies, private equity firms, biopharmaceutical companies, financial institutions, Fortune 500 companies, and universities, as well as executives and current or former public officials.
At Commerce, Blake helped lead an office of more than 300 lawyers advising the Secretary and the Department’s components. He led the Department’s response to congressional investigations and other oversight, and he advised on export controls, trade, AI, industrial policy, and cutting-edge domestic and international issues.
Before joining Commerce, Blake was a partner at another major firm in Washington, D.C., where he practiced for a decade, focusing on congressional investigations, crisis management, and government-facing investigations and litigation. Prior to that, Blake served for three years in the White House Counsel’s Office, where he advised on a wide range of high-profile oversight, litigation, compliance, and policy matters.
Earlier in his career, Blake clerked for the Honorable Diana Gribbon Motz of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
