Eversheds Sutherland Partner Dan Frank published a two-part editorial in the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) Legal Reporting Service outlining the existing laws and regulations pertaining to the physical security of the electric grid and how they affect electric cooperatives. In addition to ensuring that the grid continues to operate reliably and safely, electric cooperatives and other utilities must also bear in mind legal and regulatory requirements governing the physical security of electric infrastructure. Part one of the article series addresses federal requirements. Part two covers typical state requirements, and includes a review of some available guidance on physical security.
