Eversheds Sutherland is pleased to announce that Charles C. Hwang has joined the Tax Practice Group as senior counsel in the Washington DC office, strengthening its transactional tax services to clients. Mr. Hwang joins Eversheds Sutherland after the recent additions of international tax partners Michael Lebovitz and Megan Hall, state and local tax partner Todd Betor, and federal tax controversy trio David Blair, David Fischer and Dwight Mersereau, marking another milestone in the firm’s continued expansion of its comprehensive tax services.
With a deep knowledge of transactional tax planning, Mr. Hwang regularly reviews and assists clients in the negotiation and drafting of merger agreements, stock purchase agreements, asset purchase agreements, contribution agreements, executive compensation agreements and partnership, joint venture, and limited liability company agreements. He also provides tax advice in connection with rollover and startup transactions, and loans.
“I am extremely pleased to welcome Charlie to our tax team,” said Robert S. Chase, US Tax Practice Group Leader. “We are committed to meeting our clients’ expanding needs and Charles’ significant transactional tax experience deepens our tax service offerings. We are excited by the value and perspective he will offer to our global client base. With the addition of Charlie our tax team continues to be unmatched in its ability to provide unparalleled support in tax planning.”
Mr. Hwang also brings extensive experience advising corporate clients on transactions involving acquisitions of publicly held corporations, the restructuring and sales of distressed businesses, the formation of consortia to trade financial derivatives, the restructuring of international operations, and taxable and tax-free mergers and reorganizations. In addition, he has counseled tax-exempt organizations on unrelated business income tax and exemption issues, including royalty, investment, and structural issues.
