Tanvi Shah is a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US) and a senior associate in the firm’s Global Data Privacy & Technology and Litigation practice groups, which include more than 150 lawyers across 35 countries.
Tanvi advises clients on practical, risk-based compliance strategies in a rapidly evolving regulatory landscape. She helps companies design and implement multi-jurisdictional privacy programs, with particular depth in emerging U.S. state privacy laws, including the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA). She also counsels on federal sectoral regimes such as the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA), as well as California laws governing minors’ data.
Drawing on extensive experience in the technology sector, Tanvi provides strategic guidance on the deployment and governance of artificial intelligence and generative AI. Her work focuses on frontier safety, high-risk AI systems, chatbots, and provenance, helping clients navigate both regulatory requirements and broader risk considerations.
Tanvi regularly partners with clients on:

In addition to her privacy and cybersecurity practice, Tanvi advises on a range of business and commercial litigation matters, including class actions, contract disputes, and consumer protection claims, and represents clients in state and local courts.
Tanvi is an active leader within the firm and the San Diego community. She serves as Chair of the California ES Women Attorneys Group, represents San Diego, San Francisco and Silicon Valley on the Associate Committee, and serves as the Litigation Associate Representative on the Professional Development Committee. She also coaches law school mock trial teams in San Diego.
Before joining Eversheds Sutherland, Tanvi practiced at a global law firm where she advised higher education clients on federal regulatory compliance, accreditation standards, and state licensure requirements, as well as on civil litigation matters.
