As a Special Counsel on the Investment Services and Products practice group team, Angela Montez works closely with firms in the retirement and investment industries to provide advice and solutions for a range of regulatory and product development issues.
Angela has more than 30 years of experience successfully serving as a key legal advisor in the financial services industry, including as a trusted senior leadership member and advisor to CEOs and Boards of Directors.
She had a 20-plus-year career at MissionSquare Retirement (formerly ICMA-RC), where she was most recently SVP, Chief Legal, Corporate & Government Affairs Officer, responsible for leading and supervising all aspects of the Legal, Compliance, Enterprise Risk and Government Affairs functions and corporate governance for this financial services complex. This included providing direction on legal, compliance and risk matters impacting the organization’s investment management, plan administration and advisory businesses, oversight of DOL, IRS, SEC and state regulatory matters and litigation, and guidance regarding tax-exempt issues.
Angela was previously Special Counsel at Eversheds Sutherland (2021-2023), focused on retirement and investment policy and products, including ERISA Title I fiduciary matters, tax and securities law issues and collective investment trust matters.
Earlier in her career, Angela was an associate at Grom Law Group (1993-2000), where she analyzed issues arising under ERISA and related tax and securities laws.Latest Insights
