Patrick Gilman has joined the firm as a partner in the Washington DC office. A former federal prosecutor in the United States Army and a seasoned trial lawyer, Mr. Gilman will enhance Eversheds Sutherland’s global corporate crime and investigations capabilities, and will help lead the firm’s national security practice. He was previously with Brown Rudnick. “Patrick has achieved notable victories in private practice and as a former prosecutor for the military,” said Mark D. Wasserman, Co-CEO of Eversheds Sutherland. “His arrival further expands our exceptional white-collar capabilities and the services we offer to clients in and out of the courtroom.” Having successfully handled more than 40 felony jury trials, Mr. Gilman has extensive experience prosecuting and defending criminal and other high-profile cases before both federal and state trial and appellate courts. He has worked throughout Europe, the Middle East and East Asia, building and leading teams focused on managing complex trials, and conducting and managing investigations. “Patrick’s prosecutorial accomplishments, combined with his cross-border experience conducting internal investigations and assessing corporate risk, will greatly benefit our US and international clients as they navigate investigations and cross-jurisdictional compliance requirements,” said Sarah E. Paul, Partner and Co-Global Head of Corporate Crime and Investigations. “We are thrilled to have him on our team.” Mr. Gilman also represents corporate and individual clients on all aspects of complex civil, regulatory and criminal matters before various US federal agencies, including the Departments of Justice, State, Commerce, Defense, Treasury, and Homeland Security and the broader intelligence community. His recent matters include leading investigations involving unauthorized access to classified information, representing C-suite level individuals in DOJ FCPA probes, and implementing OFAC and anti-money laundering compliance and screening programs. “Eversheds Sutherland’s global presence and commitment to client success, combined with its reputation in the areas of corporate crime and investigations and cybersecurity and privacy law, presented me with an exciting growth opportunity for the next phase of my career,” said Mr. Gilman. “I know my clients will greatly benefit from the move.” Prior to rejoining private practice in 2019, Mr. Gilman was an award-winning Judge Advocate in the United States Army focused on prosecuting violations of federal criminal law domestically and internationally. Mr. Gilman spent a significant number of those years advising clients on national security law, cybersecurity and privacy and regulatory compliance. Mr. Gilman is a decorated combat veteran who has been awarded with a Purple Heart, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medals, Army Commendation Medals and a Combat Action Badge. He maintains a Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information security clearance.
