Eversheds Sutherland Welcomes Brandon Hill as US Capital Markets and Investments Counsel in Washington, DC, Bolstering Alternative Asset and Registered Funds Services

With over 20 years of financial regulatory experience in both the public and private sectors—including more than 15 years at the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)—Mr. Hill will enhance the team’s capabilities advising clients, including registered funds, broker-dealers and fintech companies, on complex issues involving regulatory compliance and product development.

In his government roles, Mr. Hill has worked on a range of issues involving exchange-traded funds, digital assets and online fixed-income trading platforms, including drafting no-action letters that provided regulatory guidance and clarity. He has also provided critical interpretive guidance on a range of financial markets matters and contributed to rulemaking and policy initiatives focused on strengthening cybersecurity practices, supporting cloud adoption and advancing digital engagement strategies. Mr. Hill has particular experience in rules governing exchange-traded products, equity market structure, cybersecurity and examinations.

Clients will benefit from Mr. Hill’s deep understanding of regulatory trends and the practical realities of working with regulators, enabling them to anticipate change and implement proactive compliance strategies. He will counsel clients on issues arising under the federal securities laws and related regulatory regimes, with a focus on registered investment funds, product development and evolving regulatory considerations impacting digital assets.

Most recently, Mr. Hill was Senior Special Counsel in the Office of Chief Counsel in the SEC’s Division of Trading and Markets. In this role, he served as one of the agency’s representatives to the Committee on Regulation of Market Intermediaries at the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO), where he represented the SEC on cross-border issues affecting broker-dealers.

Earlier in his agency tenure, he was Senior Special Counsel to a SEC Commissioner. He also worked as an examiner in the Division of Corporation Finance, where he provided legal interpretive guidance on matters involving the Securities Act and the Exchange Act.
