Meghana is a dynamic and creative solution-focused litigator with over two decades of experience managing all aspects of domestic and international litigation and investigations.
Clients appreciate her attention to detail, ability to meaningfully synthesize information, and case management skills, particularly with respect to managing cases across jurisdictions and globally. Meghana is resident in the firm’s New York office and practices regularly in state and federal courts in New York and has significant experience handling and managing class action and large-scale multi-district litigation here at home and managing multi-lingual, international investigations around the world. Her industry experience spans multiple areas including class action and multidistrict litigation in the environmental, toxic tort, and energy space, as well as internal investigations of all types.
Meghana has defended environmental contamination, and toxic tort claims throughout her 20-year career. Most recently, she represented a large energy company in toxic tort litigation alleging claims of wrongful death and property damage in connection with MTBE and benzene contamination. She is also currently representing a leading energy and commodities company in a complex multi-district litigation (MDL) pending in the Southern District of New York. In the MDL, numerous state attorneys general have asserted common law tort and strict product liability claims against numerous manufacturer, supplier, distributor, and retail defendants concerning environmental contamination of groundwater with MTBE. She previously represented Bouchard Transportation, a leading shipping company, in connection with an oil spill off the coast of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, in one of the few environmental class-action matters ever tried to verdict in the United States.
Integrating those backgrounds together with her interests in emerging issues in the law, she also co-founded and co-leads the Cannabis Industry Team at Eversheds Sutherland. In that role, she has served as a trusted strategic advisor to a variety of clients, including cannabis companies and ancillary service providers such as insurers and financial services institutions, with respect to a broad range of issues related to cannabis.
Outside of her practice, community service, civic engagement and pro bono work are an important part of her professional life. She has represented political asylees seeking asylum in the United States throughout her career. She also serves on the board of SAPNA NYC, a nonprofit organization that serves the South Asian immigrant community in New York City with scientifically backed evidence-based programming.
